Ahh, living down the shore can be such a luxury because of what we are near....THE BEACH!

However, what is supposed to be a nice season at the beach can easily be ruined with littered beaches and murky water. Check out the 10 dirtiest beaches in New Jersey so you know where to steer clear of or, even better, to bring a clean up crew.

1. L. Street Beach in Belmar

Eight closures and three contamination advisories within the past 12 years. Probably not the best spot to head to next time we come across a nice day out.

2. Summit in Island Heights

A total of two closures and ten contamination advisories within the past 12 years. Maybe not your best spot.

3. Brown Avenue South in Spring Lake

Seven closures and five contamination advisories within the past 12 years. Proceed with caution.

4. Hancock in Seaside Heights

Six closures and seven contamination advisories within the past 12 years. Snooki may have used a tad too much hairspray.

5. 25th Street Bay Front in Barnegat Light

Three closures and twelve contamination advisories within the past 12 years. And yes, it does get worse.

6. River in Point Pleasant

Ten closures and five contamination advisories within the past 12 years. We are not officially in the double digits for closures.

7. Maxon in Point Pleasant

Eleven closures and six contamination advisories within the past 12 years.

8. West Beach Avon Road in Pine Beach

Seventeen closures and fourteen contamination advisories within the past 12 years.

9. Winward Beach in Brick

Twenty two closures and nineteen contaminations within the past 12 years.

10. Beachwood Beach West in Beachwood

A whopping forty seven closures and twenty four contamination advisories. Public officials say that it is no secret that the bay is in trouble due to larger populations of people going to these beaches due to nearby growing towns.
