The Asbury Park Press reports that investigators believe the boys used aerosol cans, tiki torch fuel and a lighter to set sneakers on fire.

Police say the boys were rushed by helicopter to the burn center at Saint Barnabas in Livingston on Wednesday night. Their current condition was not immediately known.

The brother of one victim told police he rushed the boy to a local school to alert their parents, who were attending a 'back to school' event. He told school officials his brother had been burned on the face and both knees. Police say the other boy was found at home with burns to his forehead, forearms and lower legs.
