The 2014 Winter Olympics take place in Sochi, Russia next month, with the Opening Ceremonies happening two weeks from today.

Unfortunately for our athletes, they'll be presented to the world wearing an outfit one would expect to see at an ugly sweater party.

Don't believe me?

Come on. What the hell is that?

Designer Ralph Lauren even had them for sale on his website, with the entire purchase price ($595?!??!) going to the U.S. Olympic Committee. Somehow, they all sold out, and they are no longer available to the public.

The good thing about the outfit is that it was 100% made in the U.S.A. The wool was harvested in Oregon, spun in Pennsylvania, dyed in North Carolina, and assembled in California. (This is all in contrast to Lauren's use of Chinese factories to make the Team USA gear in 2012.)

The bad thing is...everything else. I don't know what's worse, that we are appearing to a global audience in wool sweatpants, the terrible boots, or...that frickin sweater.

This is what Team USA looked like at the last Winter Games:

It just looks more nicely put together.

This year, we look a little sloppy. It's as if a preppy girl and a hipster guy got together, and this is what they came up with. Just not good. What would be so terrible about dark blue pants, a white sweater (add some navy blue stripes if you want), and a red belt or hat or something? What? Too classy??

Lucky for us this isn't the Fashion Olympics!
