Update: Britney Spears is NOT on board with Lifetime's planned TV movie about her life, according to a statement from her rep.

"Britney Spears will not be contributing in any way, shape or form to the Lifetime biopic," the rep told Us Weekly on August 25, "nor does it have her blessing."

Honestly, who would want a schmaltzy cable movie chronicling the low points of your life? Nuh uh. Not with Lifetime's wig team behind it. Feel free to make your own objections to this project known by signing this "Lifetime, can you not?" Change.org petition we just created, because this is AMERICA.

Original post: Britney Spears has been a pop icon since the late '90s, but she's far from out of the music game: the August 26 release of Glory, her ninth studio album, comes just ahead of her return to the MTV Video Music Awards stage (and her Piece of Me Vegas residency is still humming along as well). Now she'll be the subject of an announced Lifetime Network TV movie tentatively titled Britney, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Chronicling what Lifetime calls the "tumultuous true story" of the "Make Me" singer's early fame as an entertainer, the movie will portray her relationship and breakup with Justin Timberlake (a subject Justin's certainly revisited for his own ends often enough), her struggle with the fallout from her parents' divorce, and her notorious rough patch in 2007. It will also tell the story of her marriages to Jason Alexander and Kevin Federline. Given the many peaks and valleys of Britney Jean's decades in the spotlight, maybe they should consider a miniseries instead? I don't want Lifetime to skimp on reenacted scenes from Chaotic.

Natasha Bassett, an Australian actress who recently appeared in Hail, Caesar! with George Clooney and Scarlett Johansson and a fellow pretty blonde lady, will play Britney. Whether she can nail the steps and wield Banana the snake like a pro remains to be seen.

The movie will shot in Vancouver, and is set for a 2017 release. Anne-Marie Hess will write the Britney script, and Leslie Libman, who has helmed episodes of Vampire Diaries and The Originals as well as Lifetime's Manson's Lost Girls, is set to direct.
