I attended the ceremony in Belmar yesterday for the groundbreaking of the reconstruction and featured a visit from Gov. Chris Christie. It was a day of pride for the entire Jersey Shore as the rebuilding moves forward.

A walk along Ocean Ave reminds you that there is a lot of work ahead, but the enthusiasm from Mayor Matt Doherty and Governor Christie, as well as the reaction from the substantial crowd at the event really give you the impression that, not only is it possible, but that it's going to happen, and that's a good thing for the entire shore and the entire state.

The Governor promised that he and his family would be celebrating Memorial Day weekend in Belmar, much to the excitement of the hometown crowd.

I have to admit that when I first arrived in Belmar my heart sunk over all the damage, much the same way my heart dropped when I first visited Point Beach and other beach towns. When you think about the people and families and their homes and possessions and memories, it breaks your heart.

But my thoughts quickly changed to optimism after feeling the energy from the great people of Belmar, who are ready to rebuild! Hey Belmar...thanks for making the whole Jersey Shore proud!
