A car pulled over to the shoulder caught fire around 7:34AM. The unidentified driver got out without injury.

Meanwhile, two other cars were in the left lane with damage from an accident. The occupants of one car got out on their own by the time fire & rescue arrived while the driver of the third car was trapped.

The closure of the slow road caused traffic to back up for nearly 10 miles to the Forked River service area, according to NJ State Police.

Both directions closed to allow a medical helicopter to land on the roadway but the southbound side was reopened.
