Aggressive Raccoon Attacking Monmouth County Residents

Monmouth County Park System officials say that an aggressive raccoon has recently attacked visitors in a county park.

The incidents occurred in Middletown's Thompson Park. The raccoon "scratched and/or bit visitors" in two separate incidents in the central portion of the park behind the Old Orchard and Filly Run parking lots on the evening of July 5.

"Rangers are now searching for the animal. Exercise caution and keep children and pets close by. Please report any sightings to a Park Ranger or Middletown Police," officials say.
