In 2014, 315,000 items were cleaned from New Jersey beaches by volunteers from Clean Ocean Action.

The most common item found during the clean up was plastic. Pieces of plastic were responsible for 13% of the items picked up, according to whig.com. There was also a list of surprising, and some not so surprising items found.

Is anyone shocked that hair brushes, hair ties and bobby pins were found on Jersey beaches? Christmas lights were found along with firecrackers, as well as a bowling ball and a parking meter.

Also found, a stun gun, a whoopee cushion and a ski pole. The next scheduled Clean Ocean Action clean-up is scheduled for Saturday, April 25th at 72 locations..
