We are about to enter the eating zone this Thanksgiving week and no invention has helped us deal with the inevitable over-eating we are about to embark upon more than the elastic waistband.

Now, a little history. As you begin your Thanksgiving feast, there will be many people and things you are thankful for. When the meal has wrapped up, there is definitely one name you should add to the list, and that is Thomas Hancock.

Thomas Hancock was an English inventor, who is credited with inventing elastic in the early 1800's. He founded the British rubber industry, according to about.com. Who knew that his vision would add waistline comfort to millions of Thanksgiving participants each year.

Now, I'm not saying you should wear sweats to the festivities this year, but is anybody going to really blame you for packing a pair and leaving them in the car. It's good to be prepared.
