Were you hoping to get the new iPhone 5? Well unless you were early in line for today's pre-order, you'll have to wait. How long?

Well, that depends.

The pre-order started at 3:01 a.m. (12:01 a.m. Pacific time), and the limited inventory reportedly sold out in about an hour.

There were some slight issues reported with ordering through the various websites, with some super smart Apple users easily pre-ordering through the Apple Store app. (Ah, technology, ordering a brand new, not-much-different smartphone from your already-working-not-in-need-of-replacement smartphone.)

The phone is still available for pre-order through Verizon and AT&T, though that doesn't mean you'll receive it by next Friday, the official iPhone 5 release date.

Verizon lists their delivery date as September 26th, while the Apple website now says the phone will ship in two weeks.

Of course if you MUST HAVE the phone by September 21, you can wait it out in line at an Apple store (like the one at Freehold Raceway Mall), where sales will start at 8 a.m.

I don't know what the obsession is with having it on the first day it comes out. It's not like it's the FIRST iPhone.

What would you wait in line for hours to buy?
