The event billed as "A Day to Say Thank You", is being held this Sunday at the Moorage Baseball Complex in the RJE JR Volunteer Community Center and is being hosted by both Berkeley Township and the township little league. Little League President Bob Everett says he and the Mayor came up with the idea during a recent meeting.

"Just started hearing all of the stories about the extreme amount of work all of our public works employees were doing, our firefighters with long 16 hour days, clearly going above and beyond their normal call of duty. You know, a lot of our first responders, anyway are volunteers."

Everett says the "football party" will feature several large screen HDTV's, kids activities and food donated by local restaurants from 12:30 to 6 p.m.

In a press release, Mayor Carmen Amato says "the last few weeks have been unlike anything our township has faced in the past. The council and I, as well as our residents, are very appreciative of the hard work all of our employees and volunteers have done."

Officials say all proceeds and food are being donated and no public funds are being used. They are accepting monetary donations, pot luck dishes and supplies for the event. They can be made to the Berkeley Little League, PO Box 172 Bayville, NJ 08721. Excess funds are to be donated to storm relief.
