Berkley Man Struck by Lightning at Island Beach State Park
According to Island Beach State Park officials, a A 48-year-old Berkeley man survived being struck by lightning this afternoon.
Lawrence Hajna, a spokesman for the State Department of Environmental Protection said the man was taken to the hospital siting numbness in his legs. He was, however, conscious.
There is speculation that the lightning may have struck his fishing pole according to officials.
The man was fishing in an area around Ocean Beach Area Two near the swimming area when he was struck at around 1:15 p.m. according to reports.
The beach was in the process of being evacuated due to the thunderstorm.He was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune to be treated.
