Best Local Foods to Celebrate National Junk Food Day
It's National Junk Food Day, a day to celebrate all the delicious treats of the world that maybe don't have the best nutritional value.
I like to think junk food is not just the processed, pre-packaged stuff...so let's shop local!
Donuts
There are some amazingggg local donut shops here at the Jersey Shore, and I think we can all agree that donuts aren't exactly health food. I'd recommend getting your fix of fried, doughy fabulousness at any of the local spots listed HERE.
Ice Cream
On a crazy hot day like this, few things sound better than ice cream! Whether it's at Jersey Freeze, Strollo's, Hoffman's, Nagle's, Day's, Ice Cream on 9, or any of the other awesome Jersey Shore ice cream shops (check out some HERE), get yourself a cone, and stay cool today!
Cookies
It could be because I've eaten a few too many coconut macaroons from The Macaroon Shop lately, but I've had cookies on the brain! I'd also recommend the french macarons from Antoinette Boulangerie in Red Bank, mini chocolate chip cookies from The Flaky Tart in Atlantic Highlands, or bacon chocolate chip cookies from Lala's in Brick...so good!
Disco Fries
This basically applies to anything you can really only get at a good Jersey diner. Hot, salty french fries topped with brown gravy and gooey, melted cheese? It's a taste like no other, with the unhealthy stats to push it solidly into junk food territory. Celebrate, and enjoy!
Cheese Balls
Fried wads of cheddar cheese? Sign me up. There's plenty of imitations around, but for the real deal, you gotta head to Steaks Unlimited in Seaside Heights!
