There are some very special upcoming events that you can attend, along with wonderful opportunities for you to volunteer to help the Boys and Girls Clubs of Monmouth County, which provides events and programs for over 1,600 young people in our area each year. Deidre moved to Asbury Park when she was 9, and was happy to find the Boys and Girls Club. In high school she attended many workshops that helped her learn about saving for college and raising her SAT scores. Her goal is to attend college and study Psychology and Social work because she went through the system herself and found that many of the foster homes were not up to par. She wants to help other kids like her have a better life. She is currently applying for the Boys and Girls Club Youth of the Year Scholarship. Deidre says she truly doesn't know what she would have done without the Club and its programs, and that without them she would be lost.

Tychelle is a 14 year old who was known as a "wild child" when she first came to the Asbury Park Club. Her grades were horrible and she constantly got into fights with her peers. She took drugs and had no interest in school. After joining programs at the Boys and Girls Club, her grades have improved and she has stopped taking drugs. Her mother and grandmother have expressed their amazement at the change in Deidre.

The Clubs in Asbury Park and Red Bank provide many services and programs, including summer camps, hot dinners, Character and Leadership Development, Education and Career Development, Health and Life Skills, Arts, Sports-Fitness-Recreation, and Technology.

They also work hard at Gang Prevention and Outreach.

You can help beautify the Clubs at their 2012 Volunteer Day this Saturday, May 5th, at both the Asbury Park and Red Bank locations. To register: mari@bgcmonmouth.org or call  Mari McMahon 732-775-7862
