A note disseminated through the Ocean County Sheriff's Office at 4:26 PM indicated that the search had ended, though it did not identify any suspects and did not elaborate on where they were found..

The Sheriff's Facebook page first posted information about the incident earlier this afternoon. Subsequent posts added that they suspects would face assault charges.

The episode unfolded outside the Toms River office of the New Jersey Division of Motor Vehicles on Hooper Avenue, in the township's Silverton section.

Police were looking for a Hispanic male, medium build, in his 30s with a closely-trimmed scalp, driving a black Honda Civic or Accord, bearing temporary Pennsylvania license plates. They haven't disclosed the degree to which any suspects, or the car, match the description.

Police say the officer will recover, but they did not identify him or his condition.
