BRADLEY BEACH — A car was struck by a commuter train struck at a crossing on Monday morning.

Service on NJ Transit's North Jersey Coast Line was suspended between Long Branch and Bay Head in both directions for cleanup and investigation of the crash at the Evergreen Avenue crossing in Bradley Beach.

NJ Transit spokeswoman Lisa Torbic said a motor vehicle made contact with North Jersey Coast Line Train No. 4340, which had left Bay Head at 10:10 a.m. The elderly female driver of the motor vehicle was alert and conscious and was transported to Jersey Shore Medical Center after complaining of chest pain, she said.

Torbic did not know how many passengers and crew were on the train.

Resident Patti McCormick, who arrived at the scene just after the crash, said the airbags on the passenger side of a silver Prius were deployed by the impact. She said the train remained at the scene but could not tell if it had been damaged.
