I recently saw a Facebook post from someone at the Monmouth County SPCA thanking 'The Cat Whisperer' for helping to keep pet owners' cats behaved so they don't get brought to a shelter.

I had to find out more about this, so I contacted the woman referred to in the post, and thought I'd pass along what I learned.

Sally Williams is a Cat Behavior Consultant and calls her business The Contented Cat.  Her goal is for her clients to have the happiest home possible by creating good relationships between humans and cats...as well as dogs.

As a shelter volunteer locally, Sally says it breaks her heart when she sees a cat surrendered to a shelter because the owner can't get it to behave. Sally wants you to know there is help available and you don't have to give up your cat! As Sally says to her clients when they call, "Take a deep breath and know there is help."

She does everything from the proper introduction of a cat into your home to addressing unwanted behavior in your feline.

If your cats are suddenly fighting, if your cat stops using the litterbox, if a new person comes into your home and your cat freaks out...Sally can do some detective work and form a plan to help you and your cat.

She'll start with a phone conversation, followed by a 90-minute in-home consultation so that she can see your cat in its environment and interacting with you.

Then she'll work on a custom plan for you and your pet(s). Over the next 30 days, as you work on that plan, Sally will be in touch with you to guide you through the process.

Sally says every cat, every client, and every situation is unique and she is flexibly at handling many different situations and being there when you need her.

Sally is also an Animal Reiki Practitioner and she also offers guidance in specific areas like pet adoption, nail trimming, and clicker training.

Many cat owners have thanked Sally for 'giving me my cat back' or for getting their cat back to using the litter box, etc.

If you are at the end of your leash and about to give up a cat because it's 'just not working out'....maybe you should try a cat whisperer first!
