The Jersey Shore got covered in heavy snow just barely a week after Hurricane Sandy, with some places like Toms River seeing a foot of the white stuff.
Naturally, the kids want to run out and play...but it's not exactly safe this time around.
Nancy said it best on the show this morning. Her dream man is a guy in a hard hat and a utility belt. It hasn't always been that way, but Nancy hasn't had power in 11 days.
Remember when you first heard about Sandy. You looked at that map that showed all the different possible tracks of the storm, and you just assumed it would go one of the other ways. We hardly ever get hurricanes, so we certainly aren't going to get this one, right? Doesn't that seem like months ago?
There are so many words to describe each of us on the Jersey Shore. Shocked, exhausted, concerned, cold, heartbroken, resilient, focused and neighborly are some that come to mind, but one that doesn't is ready, especially when it comes to another storm.
I would like to ask Mother Nature a question. Was it something we said? This is New Jersey, after all, and I know we sometimes say things we probably shouldn't, but Sandy, then a below freezing night with so many without power, and now a Nor'easter? Really?
Even if you were fortunate enough to not suffer major damage from Sandy, odds are you have no power, and all you can do is wait. And odds are you have headed to the gas station to fill your car or generator, and all you can do is wait there as well.
It happened three times in one hour. Once would have been awesome, twice would have been amazing. Three times in an hour, three different neighbors knocked on my door to see if we needed anything at the store, needed help or just wanted a cup of coffee. We were fortunate. Aside from no power everything else was ok with us, but it was nice to know help was there.
Yesterday, Governor Chris Christie said in a press conference that after officials had inspected the Jersey Shore's barrier islands that it was estimated that the areas between Bay Head and Seaside Heights sustained the most damage. This 3 minute video confirms that.
Monmouth County Sheriff Shaun Golden has joined us each morning since the day before Sandy to keep us updated on the very latest on the aftermath of Sandy. Sheriff Golden has been touring some of the devastation and shared some photos with us and we wanted to share them with you.
I was driving on Bridge Ave. in Point Pleasant yesterday and I saw what I'm pretty sure was the National Guard. It certainly was comforting to know that additional help is here for all the unprecedented, monumental tasks ahead of us here at the Jersey Shore.
The Jersey Shore is famous for being home to good strong people. Patience however, has never been one of our strong point, but hey, that's who we are. But since Sandy, we all have to reach down deep and muster as much patience as we can.
