Late last night, Boehner postponed a vote on a $60 billion Sandy relief package.

At an afternoon press conference at the State House in Trenton today, Christie said, “We respond to innocent victims of natural disaster not as Republicans or Democrats, but as Americans or least we did until last night…Last night, the House of Representatives failed that most basic test of public service and they did so with callous indifference to the suffering of the people of my state.”

Christie lays all of the blame at the feet of Boehner. He says it was Boehner’s call to delay the vote. The Governor says he called the Speaker four times last night, but Boehner did not take his calls. He says he spoke with Boehner today and was given no “credible” reason why the vote was postponed.

The Governor says the postponement epitomizes why people, “hate congress.” He explains, “They forget that we sent them there. We sent them there to do the work for us…We have people down there who use the citizens of this country like pawns on a chess board…Our people were played last night like pawns on a chessboard.”

New Jersey and New York House Republicans emerged from a 3pm meeting with Boehner today and said the House will vote on a $9 billion flood insurance bill this Friday and on Tuesday, January 15 they will vote on another measure that would provide $51 billion in Sandy relief aid.
