Adult coloring books are booming in sales. Many of my friends like to relax and color. But I find this coloring thing great for a different reason.

I received my first adult coloring book for my birthday last year. I pictured myself sitting outside on my porch, candle lit, relaxing and getting rid of my daily stresses by coloring.

But I never got around to that. I was too busy! How could I possibly justify relaxing and coloring when there was a house to be cleaned? Kids to cook for? Places to transport said kids?

So I put my coloring book and colored pencils up on a shelf to use during vacation...when I was sure to find time to relax.

That was last summer.

Then the holidays came and my sister got me a second adult coloring book and colored pencils. But, this time, she wanted to get together to color.

Hmmmmmm, I thought, let's see how that goes.

So we had cheese and crackers, music playing, hot coffee on a cold day, and, while her husband (Uncle Mikey) played with the boys, I took down from the shelf my coloring books and we sat around the table and colored...and had some great conversation, good laughs, and gossip about the family dramas that have unfolded through the years.

And I realized what fun it could be to have 'coloring time' with your family members and close friends. It is actually a great way to spend time in long, wonderful conversations!
