Well...it's SOMETHING.

After a 'software issue' on Tuesday left Comcast customers throughout the Jersey Shore without service for most of the day, the company is offering a small refund.

Spokesperson Jeff Alexander told me via e-mail that customers can expect a $5 credit for their troubles:

We are very sorry about the recent interruption to Xfinity services in some Jersey Shore areas. We know customers rely on us and we fell short of their expectations. As an apology, we are automatically crediting $5 to all customers who were impacted. They do not need to do anything to receive the credit – it will appear on one of their next bills."

I know a lot of folks' first thought will be, "That's it??" However, depending on how much you're spending a month for your service, $5 might be about how much (or more than) you actually pay per day.

If you're spending more than $150 a month, well, then perhaps you have a bone to pick with them...and of course this doesn't really account for the massive inconvenience or the financial issues it caused for businesses or telecommuters who might have lost out on work because of the outage.

At least they won't make us jump through hoops to get the credit!
