Come See the Mermaid Parade on the Asbury Boardwalk
Mermaids! Pirates! Sea Creatures! Oh, the things you will see…
Mark your calendars and get your costumes ready for the third annual Asbury Park Promenade of Mermaids on the boardwalk Saturday, August 26th at 2 pm..
You can either dress yourself and your kids up and take part in the parade, or just come and watch the frivolity. It is so much fun either way for your entire family!
Whether your prefer pirates, seahorses, shellfish, jellyfish, or mermaids, there is plenty to see on the boardwalk at the Promenade of Mermaids. It’s a whole afternoon of costumed fun for kids and adults.
On-site registration begins at Noon on August 26ty, and participants can register for $10. There is no registration required to be in the parade, only if you want to be considered for prizes. A portion of the proceeds will be dedicated to Project Real.
It is free to come down and watch the parade and will feature special guests, local vendors, and lots more ‘fin in the sun.’
Prizes will be awarded for Best Costume and runner-up for adults (ages 15 and up) as well as 1st, 2nd, and 3rd prizes for kids 14 and under.
There are other festivities going on that day, too, including starfish students CJ, Tracy, Cole and Rebecca from SharqiDance in Wall, who will give a belly dancing demonstration in front of the Promenade base tent directly across from the Stone Pony on the Ocean Avenue side of the boardwalk.
Live music for the parade will be provided by NJ’s own Gypsy Funk Squad, the party band that plays a fusion of classic belly dance songs with revamped rock/pop/dance tunes and original psychedelic surprises thrown in…belly style!
The Promenade of Mermaids begins on the Asbury Park boardwalk across from the Stone Pony and the costumed parade will proceed north along the boards, marching to Convention hall before turning around and returning to the base tent. That’s where the judges will announce the prizes for best costumes.
The judges will also crown a King and Queen for the day, and then the fun will continue after the parade with a display of craft vendors, music, and an after-party for ages 21 and older inside the Asbury Park Yacht Club.
The Third Annual Asbury Park Promenade of Mermaids is made possible by the generous support of the Marilyn Schlossbach Group (Langosta Lounge, Pop’s Garage, Lightly Salted Surf Mercado, Asbury Park Yacht Club) and the City of Asbury Park.
