As the Jersey Shore continues the rebuilding process from Hurricane Sandy, one piece of new construction is sure to attract attention.

Ed Jarrett, a world-renowned sand castle builder, will attempt to break his own Guinness World Record for the tallest sand castle with his latest creation— the Sandy Castle.

The Sandy Castle will be constructed on the beach in Point Pleasant immediately north of  Jenkinson's Pavilion.

A group of local volunteers, business owners and area officials gathered at Jenk's on Monday, March 25 to officially kickoff the  construction with the ceremonial dumping of the first bucket of sand. Despite rain, snow and gusty winds, spirits were high.

The event was part of 94.3 The Point's 'Point in Time' broadcast.

Construction of the Sandy Castle is expected to carry through into the summer. You can keep up with the progress via The Sandy Castle Foundation Facebook page.
