If you see smoke in the sky over Ocean County today there's nothing to worry about.

Barnegat Police said the New Jersey Forest Fire Service will be doing a controlled burn in the area of Barnegat Boulevard and Lochiel Creek Park starting at noon on Friday. The wind is expected to keep smoke away from most residential areas.

"Controlled or prescribed burning is a method we've been using since 1928 to effectively reduce fuel accumulation. Fuels are any vegetation that can burn and start or contribute to the spread of a wildfire," said Greg McLaughlin, Division Forest Fire warden of earlier controlled burns. "We apply these burns intentionally to areas that we feel have an excessive accumulation of fuels and in areas that have been prone to forest fires."

The woods are especially vulnerable due to the dry fall.
