Ahhh...the embarrassing office emergencies that happen at work. They always get you when you least expect them. But now you can be prepared!

Yes, these were written with guys in mind and may not be the 'proper' solutions, but they sure will hold you over until you can fix them properly!

-- You get ink on your shirt. Best tip? Put a paper towel underneath the fabric and shoot the spot with hair spray. Then wet another paper towel and press it against the ink. If there's no hope of rescuing the shirt and you're desperate, use White Out or a Sharpie marker to hide the stain.

-- You get gum on your outfit. Ice it. Once the gum hardens, scrape it off with a credit card. Or, if ice doesn't work, put some peanut butter on the spot and let it sit for five minutes. The peanut butter oil will break up the gum and it will come off in pieces. Finish up with a damp cloth to pull up the residue. But this advice comes with a warning, because you risk getting an oil spot from the peanut butter. (see below for oil stains.)

-- Your split your pants at work. Take them off, turn them inside out, then run a stapler along the inner seam to close the hole. If the split is along a seam, there's extra fabric where the stitching is, so the staples won't be seen or felt. OR, depending on how bad the tear is, you could also use Scotch tape, masking tape, or duct tape to close up the tear to get you through the day. But the important part for all of these fixes is to turn the pants inside out to keep your repair work hidden.

-- You hair's sticking up. Hit the rest room and dab a little liquid soap on the roots of the flyaway hair. It will coat the hair and prevent static electricity, which is the cause of your problem. Another alternative is to keep a supply of dryer sheets in your desk drawer. Just rub one on your hair and then comb it.

-- You get a food stain from lunch. If it's crusty, scrape off as much as you can with a credit card. Then dab the stain with your tongue. Saliva breaks down the food. For oil or grease stains, sprinkle baby powder on the spot, cover it with several paper towels, and press it with a book so the paper towels absorb the stain.
