It still amazes me to see deer on the beach...especially when people are walking around and the deer aren't scared away!

I went for a run at dusk one evening last week on a warm, humid summer night where there was barely even an ocean breeze.

There were several other walkers and runners, along with a volleyball game, in Sea Girt on the boardwalk and on the beach.

So I did a double-take when a deer sauntered over to me (pictured above, although you have to really look to see it). It came so close that for a minute I thought it was going to come right up onto the boardwalk. But then it stopped to graze, not at all phased by the fact that there were humans walking and running right by!

Such beautiful creatures, but still stunning to see before dark out in the open like that. There is a small section of woods behind the homes on the beach in Sea Girt, and I have also encountered foxes near there...but never on the beach itself!

I was also shocked last summer when I caught this shot of deer frolicking on the beach in Asbury Park during one of our foggy-morning live shows!
