Last year at this time, Demi Lovato was in the midst of her stay at an Illinois treatment center for an eating disorder. So needless to say, the singer and actress was not too thrilled upon hearing her former employer — the Disney Channel — make light of the very serious topic on their popular show, ‘Shake It Up.’

During an episode that aired Friday, one of the show’s characters said, “I could just eat you up … well, if I ate.” The comment made some laugh, but it made Lovato see red. She immediately took to her Twitter page where she made it clear that she did not find the comment comical in any way, shape or form.

“What are we promoting here?” Lovato tweeted, adding a hashtag of “#notfunnyATALL.”

“I find it really funny how a company can lose one of their actress’ from the pressures of an EATING DISORDER and yet still make joke about that very disease….. #nice,” she added minutes later. “EATING DISORDERS ARE NOT SOMETHING TO JOKE ABOUT.”

A rep for the Disney Channel decided to do some damage control, as they replied publicly to the star on Twitter. “@ddlovato – we hear you & are pulling both episodes as quickly as possible & reevaluating them,” the representative using the company’s PR Twitter account wrote. “It’s NEVER our intention to make light of eating disorders!”

Lovato’s treatment for her bulimia still is front and center in her life, as she recently revisited the same treatment center she sought help at in 2010. Lovato called the visit to Timberline Knolls where she spoke to the center’s current patients an “inspiring day.”
