One DIY project I finally got around to was the kitchen back splash. The first step was going to a few local home improvement and specialty tile stores to find the perfect kitchen tile. This should be the fun part, right? Some of the tile selections were attractive, but it was the same style I see in a lot of other homes. I was looking for something different. This was a long search which included buying one tile and holding it up to the wall to try and visualize how it would look. I don’t know exactly how many times I did the single tile test, but I can tell you I have a shelf full of random tiles that will eventually have a purpose.

Eventually, I stumbled across brick veneers as a special order item. I was a little hesitant to purchase a special order item for the obvious reason. What if I purchase four boxes and I don’t like it? So, I decided to roll the dice and take a chance on the brick veneer style backsplash. I ordered genuine kiln fired clay brick from the Colonial Collection and began the installation process. This was by far the best choice for my kitchen. The bricks give my kitchen a more rustic look which is a little different from the many choices of contemporary tile.

Another bonus, I added value to my home. The installation was super easy and the end result rewarding. The Old Mill Thin Brick Systems are also ideal for exterior applications.
