January is National Mentoring Month -- a big month for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Ocean County, and you can help.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Ocean County (BBBSOC) is asking you to do something life-changing for a child in need.

There are hundreds of children on their waiting list who need a Big Brother or Big Sister. Without this relationship, these children are highly vulnerable to poor performance in school, peer pressure and temptations like alcohol, drugs, crime, and gangs.

BBBSOC's mission is to provide every child facing adversity in Ocean County with a strong, professionally supported one-to-one relationship that will change his or her life for the better, forever. Their vision is that every one of these children achieves success. And donations are critical in order for them to provide that mentoring.

At BBBSOC, their Bigs help their Littles overcome challenges to better themselves, which makes the community stronger and safer. So help support the future of Ocean County and the children who live there, by helping to put a child facing adversity on the path to lifelong success.

Mentoring works. It's that simple. Your donation will help add another case manager to their staff of three, in order to enable BBBSOC to match more of the Littles on their waiting list with Bigs who are also waiting. Their list of Littles waiting for Bigs is currently over a year long.

No contribution is too little. $10 buys a Waiting Little a baseball ticket. $25 provides snacks for an outing for Littles. $50 provides supplies for an educational program. $100 provides a group mentoring activity. $1000 will adopt a Big & Little Match.

You can also get involved by joining a committee or becoming a mentor! Be Someone Who Matters to Someone Who Matters. To learn more about the agency, meet the Board of Directors, staff, "Bigs" and "Littles", join BBBSOC for their Annual Open House Wednesday, January 14th, from 3 pm - 6 pm, at 20 Hadley Avenue, Toms River. Light refreshments will be served.

BBBSOC was selected 2014 Best Non-Profit in Ocean County by the readers of the Asbury Park Press.

Your donations of gently used clothing and shoes also helps BBBSOC through their partner, Clothes for Kids' Sake.
