My boys, both in middle school, are total tech heads. So I was dragged to the mall this weekend as the Apple Watch made its debut.

The Apple store at Freehold Raceway Mall was packed....the glass case containing the Apple Watches was surrounded, and the crowd vying for 'front row' made it feel more like a rock concert than the debut of a new device.

What's the attraction of wearing a computer on your wrist? Well my boys (like many men young and old) love gadgets. I never saw so many guys trying on an accessory like most women try on shoes!

My plan was to do some shopping of my own at the mall and perhaps relax over a cup of coffee but the boys begged me to come and see this watch. I only got out of having to try one on because the wait was too long, but my boys did make sure to go over every feature with me since they were allowing everyone to customize their own watch face and play with all the features from the many models on display.

I did have a bit of trouble (ya think???) understanding why the glass case contained an Apple watch selling for 17-THOUSAND dollars!!!!!! INSANITY!!! Of course they sell a 'more affordable' one for 'just' $350 or so.

While we were there, I was also dragged over to see the new Macbook on display ---- even the price on that is ridiculous (starting price $1300!!!), but the boys wish, wish, wish they could own one of these new 2-pound laptops.

Oh, technology, what are you doing to my children???!!! By the end of their presentation and explanation (they might as well work at the store with their expertise and sales pitches) they had ME wishing I could own one.

Sure the watches are fun (animated emojis, your own heartbeat on display, drawing pictures on the screen, etc. etc.) and the laptops are higher tech than many, but I am still longing for the days that a birthday or holiday gift could come from the dollar store and satisfy them. Sigh.
