It's a glazed square yeast donut topped with crumbled bacon and a maple icing drizzle.

I love the combination of salty and sweet ingredients, and bacon and maple syrup flavors pair perfectly together. (You know, like when you eat pancakes and bacon and a piece of the bacon falls into the little puddle of syrup? So good! And conveniently enough, is exactly what these donuts smell like when you open the box!)

Now, I've had my fair share of bacon donuts from a lot of the local donut shops here at the shore, and considering how spoiled I've been by warm, made-to-order donuts, I have to say, it's pretty good!

The glazed donut base is the classic you've known and loved since you were a kid...and then it gets better.

I love that the bacon pieces on top are not microscopic bits of bacon dust, but instead are nice size crumbles, with larger pieces mixed in. I do wish the bacon was a tad saltier, but that's mostly a personal preference.

There's also a perfect amount of thick maple drizzle...it's enough to taste the maple flavor without overpowering everything. When you put it all together, it's a nice sweet bite, with contrasting texture between the crispy bacon and soft donut, which a touch of salty, smoky flavor at the end.

This donut is perfect if you want to switch things up from your regular order and try something a little savory. (I mean, you can ALWAYS get a chocolate or strawberry frosted, right?)

It's available at participating Dunkin Donuts locations throughout NJ for a limited time. Nutrition info was unavailable, but...it's a donut...with bacon on it...so...yeah.

Next time you go out on a coffee run, give the Maple Bacon Square a try, and let me know what you think!
