ENTERTAINMENT NEWS

Duchovney In Rehab - David Duchovny has entered a rehabilitation facility for sex addiction. In a statement released Thursday by his lawyer, Stanton Stein, the actor said he did so voluntarily, adding: "I ask for respect and privacy for my wife and children as we deal with this situation as a family." Duchovny, 48, plays a sex-obsessed character on the Showtime series Californication, which earned Emmy nominations for casting and cinematography. The show's second season begins Sept. 28. "All of us at Showtime wish David and his family the best during this very private time," the network said in a statement. The actor appeared in the film The X Files: I Want to Believe earlier this summer. He has been married to actress Tea Leoni since 1997. They have two children.

Lohans Exchange Words - Lindsay Lohan had words for her father on her blog. The 22-year-old actress lashed out at father Michael by calling him a "public embarrassment" and a "bully" in a MySpace blog entry posted Thursday. Earlier in the week, Michael said in an interview with E! that Lohan gal pal Samantha Ronson was "using" his daughter. Lohan's publicist, Leslie Sloane-Zelnik, confirmed the post by Lohan was legitimate. "If you have something to say to me, say it to my face -- that's what I have believed my whole life -- don't be a coward and say it to others first, let alone all the media in the world," Lohan wrote. The father and daughter have publicly quarreled for years. Lohan said in the dash-happy blog post that she tried to make things work in hopes "of having a father again" and "wanting things to
change" despite what her mother and siblings have gone through with him.
Lohan continued: "Having said that -- the people were right, and he is yet to change -- but this time, without his daughter by his side -- he has become a public embarrassment and a bully -- to my family, my co-workers, my friends and a girl that means the world to me (it's obvious who that is)." The Mean Girls star went on to say that she believes her father is addicted to fame, and if he really cared about her, he would respect her wishes. She also said than Ronson and Lohan's mother Dina would never "sell me out." Lohan ended the post by saying that she had a therapist and it's not a cameraman at x17. After the blog entries were posted Thursday, Michael told OK! magazine in an exclamation point-heavy statement that his concerns about Ronson were all generated by ex-wife Dina. Michael called Dina a "money-loving, fame-seeking, self-serving deceiver." "All I want is for Lindsay to be healthy and in a good relationship," he also said in the statement. "I want her to use the gifts she has in the best ways and to help others! I said it
from the very beginning: Show me who you walk with and I will tell you who you are! People may deceive us, but our eyes and facts don't! OPEN YOUR EYES!!!"

Meanwhile, Richard Lohan, Lindsey's paternal grandfather, has passed away at the age of 73. Richard had been in failing health for some time, with Michael saying in March that the cancer had spread to his lungs. Lindsay had made plans to visit her granddad, who was hospitalized in Long Island over the Easter holiday.

Phleps Hits Hollywood - Michael Phelps joins Miley Cyrus, Lindsay Lohan and Ciara as presenters at the September 7 VMAs telecast from Los Angeles.
British comedian Russell Brand will host. It's been a busy week for Phelps, who announced he'll write a book about his road to Olympic history (to be released in time for the holidays) and plans to host the season premiere of Saturday
Night Live
. Phelps will host the 34th season premiere of the sketch comedy series when it debuts Sept. 13, along with musical guest Lil Wayne. Though it might seem like an awkward pairing, several professional athletes have hosted the show in years past (Wayne Gretzky, Tom Brady, Peyton Manning). NBC has banked on viewer interest in Phelps continuing even though his Olympics quest to win eight gold medals has finished. Phelps is a guest on NBC's "The Tonight Show With Jay Leno" on Sept. 8 and the network picked up the broadcast rights to the 2009 World Swimming Championship from Rome and USA Swimming National Championships.

Jackson To Appear At VMA? - The newest rumor about the MTV Video Music Awards: Michael Jackson will make an appearance. TMZ.com reports that the music channel would have Jackson present an award with his sister Janet. Meanwhile, Zac Efron, Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Tisdale and Corbin Bleu of the High School Musical franchise will also present at the VMAs, as will Twilight actors Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner, MTV said Thursday. The network also announced performers Katy Perry, T-Pain, Lupe Fiasco and The Ting Tings. Performers already announced include Rihanna, Pink, Paramore and
T.I., who will be making his first appearance at a major awards show since his arrest right before an awards ceremony last year. The Jonas Brothers, Lil Wayne and Kid Rock are also scheduled to perform.

Duff's Dad To Jail - A judge in Texas has ordered the father of actress and singer Hilary Duff to spend 10 days in jail for contempt of court. Bob Duff was led away in handcuffs Wednesday during a court hearing after Judge Thomas Stansbury in Houston determined he violated an injunction against selling assets without court
approval. The Houston Chronicle reported in its online edition that Bob Duff must pay into a court repository $367,537 he earned from selling stocks last month.
Bob Duff's attorney Robert Piro said his client would post bond and file an appeal.
Bob and Susan Duff are in the midst of a bitter divorce. Stansbury determined Bob Duff should pay Susan $12,500 for Hilary's birthday party, which was the subject of the hearing. Her mother wanted $25,000 to pay for a present and party. Neither Hilary, whose 21st birthday is Sept. 28, nor her sister Haylie were in court.

UPDATE! Kara Joins The Judges - -It was only her first day as an American Idol judge, but already Kara DioGuardi seemed part of the dysfunctional family. DioGuardi, the freshly-installed fourth Idol critic, joined Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul and Randy Jackson in a public show of solidarity Tuesday afternoon as the quartet entered a Chelsea Piers building on Manhattan's west side for a round of season eight auditions. They walked a red carpet amid a media circus aimed at getting the first photo opportunity of DioGuardi with her new co-workers. Cowell summed up the thinking behind adding the 37-year-old singer-songwriter to the panel. "It's like, you know, having dinner with three people for seven years, and getting quite bored of each other," Cowell told reporters. "So it's having a fourth person, new opinion, I think
it's gonna be interesting." "I think it's gonna make it sexier," said Jackson, chiming in. DioGuardi's songs have been recorded by Kelly Clarkson, Christina Aguilera, Gwen Stefani, Celine Dion, Faith Hill, Carrie Underwood and Pink, among others.
"Kara has a good reputation of A, having hits; and B, having an opinion. And that's a good combination," Cowell said, adding, matter-of-factly: "And she's cute." "You think I'm cute?" DioGuardi replied (as if she didn't know it already). "Oh, good." A smiling Abdul said she was excited to have another woman at the judges' table. Cowell said they hadn't fully decided how ties will be broken in the audition process. In past seasons, two out of three judges had to agree to advance aspiring pop stars to the Hollywood round. He joked that the foursome held a slumber party to bond with the rookie. "We had a picnic last night in the bedroom," he said. "I wore
pajamas, the girls wore negligees and we kind of broke the ice." What will be the seating order on the panel? "I'm gonna sit between the two girls," Cowell said.
"I'm gonna sit between the two girls as well," Jackson replied. And how will the time-starved show fit in FOUR judges' opinions? "Paula will have to speak less," said Cowell, unable to resist another swipe at his favorite target.

Seinfeld Actress Dies - Ruth Cohen, who appeared more episodes of Seinfeld than anyone except the main stars, died Aug. 23 of a heart attack in Panaorma City, Calif. She was 78. Her character on "Seinfeld," the cashier at the Monk's Café, was known by her real name, Ruthie Cohen, and appeared in nearly every episode of the long-running series. Born in the Bronx, Cohen began acting in the 1980s after raising two children, starting as an extra for shows including Murder She Wrote and Golden Girls. She is survived by a son, a daughter and two grandchildren.

Breaking It Off - Nicollette Sheridan and Michael Bolton are again going their separate ways "Nicollette Sheridan and Michael Bolton have amicably ended their engagement," said their rep Nicole Perna. "They appreciate your respect for their privacy in this matter." The couple's relationship originally started in 1992, and lasted for five years. The musician, now 55, and the Desperate Housewives star, 44, then resumed seeing one another in 2005 – and in March 2006 had announced their wedding engagement.

Sheen, Mueller Expecting - Charlie Sheen is expecting a child with wife Brooke Mueller, Sheen announced Monday in a statement. "Brooke and I are thrilled!" the star of the CBS hit Two and a Half Men wrote. "She's the best stepmom Sam, Lola and Cassandra could ever hope for. Seeing her love and affection with those three, I know she'll be an amazing mom. Unless I bat 100%, perhaps a boy awaits us." Sheen has three daughters: 25-year-old Cassandra Jade Estevez, whose mother is Sheen's former girlfriend Paula Profit, and two girls with ex-wife Denise Richards. Sheen and Richards are still embroiled in a bitter custody battle over 3-year-old Sam and 2-year-old Lola. Sheen and Mueller, a real estate investor, tied the knot in late May.

No Spears At VMA's - Britney Spears will not be performing at this year’s MTV Video Music Awards Quoting Spears’s manager, Larry Rudolph, Ryan Seacrest said on his Los Anegeles morning radio show, “Britney Spears will not be performing at the VMAs this year. I’m telling you officially and unequivocally.” According to Seacrest, Rudolph told him that Spears was “in the middle of recording her next album, which is going amazingly well, and was never supposed to perform at the show.” Performance rumors arose after Spears appeared in promotional spots for the awards show with host Russell Brand. Her hairstylist Kim Vo also told E! that he was planning three hairstyles for the pop star for the Sept. 7 show, one for the red carpet, one for the show itself, and a third being something “quintessential Britney” for a performance. Spears, the Susan Lucci of the “VMAs,” is up for three awards for her video “Piece of Me.” A win in any category would be her first Moonman after 16 nominations in previous years, according to MTV.

Lost Star Found - Michelle Rodriguez, arguably one of the more polarizing personalities to have ever gotten Lost, is returning to the show this season multiple sources confirm to Entertainment Weekly's Michael Ausiello. Rodriguez is back for one episode, most likely this season's second. Given that Ana Lucia's bullet-riddled body is probably entering the final stage of decomposition, conventional Lost wisdom (if there is such a thing) points to her appearing in someone's flashback or via hallucination. The fact that Cheech Marin is also on the guest list for eppy 2 suggests that it's most likely a Hurley-centric outing. And after his encounter with Charlie's ghost last season, it's certainly feasible that Hurley would have an imaginary run-in with Ana Lucia. There's also this theory, put forth by EW's own Doc Jensen: "Maybe Ana Lucia busted L.A.-based Ghost Hustler Miles during her pre-crash LAPD days, and now the freighter folkster is seeing visions of the late Tailie on the Island!" Rodriguez's return follows last season's "resurrection" of fellow doomed Tailie Cynthia Watros (Libby), who appeared in a vision to Michael.

UPDATE! Dancing Leak Was Accurate - The lineup for season 7 of Dancing With The Stars has been revealed and it includes most of the cast leaked by the website gossipsauce.com. Kim Kardashian, Lance Bass, Toni Braxton, Brooke Burke, Maurice Greene, Cody Linley, Susan Lucci, Warren Sapp, Misty May-Treanor,Ted McGinley, Cloris Leachman and Jeff Ross. The only name the leak missed was celebrity chef Rocco DiSpirito. Kardashian, who cut her foot on a glass coffee table over the weekend, told Tom Bergeron during the Good Morning, America annoucement, "I cut my foot pretty bad..."I will be able to dance." The new season begins September 22.

Rockin' Fundraiser - The Star-Ledger reports that Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama is expected to celebrate the end of his rival's convention next week by attending a fund-raiser in Monmouth County on Friday, September 5. New Jersey Democratic Chairman Joseph Cryan says the event will start at the home of Phil Murphy, the Democratic National Finance Chairman, and will conclude at the home of rock star Jon Bon Jovi, Cryan said. There was no immediate confirmation from the Obama campaign. Cryan said admission to the event will cost $2,300. He said he was excited that the candidate would be in the Garden State only hours after Republican candidate John McCain formally accepts his party's nomination in Minnesota. Cryan said Bon Jovi had been offered a slot as a New Jersey delegate to this week's Democratic National Convention in Denver, but turned it down. "We had chatted about it. But when I found out Bon Jovi was hosting the fund-raiser, we dropped it," Cryan said.

Olympic Show - Oprah Winfrey is trying to round up every American Olympic gold medalist for a single show - perhaps to air September 11, according to various reports.Agents for the least medal-winning athletes confirmed over the weekend that producers for the show had contacted them about appearing on a special edition of the show. As well, Olympian Ronda Rousey - the only American ever to win a medal in judo - said yesterday on her own Web site that she would be appearing on Oprah "September 11th on some Olympic medalists special." In all, the US won 36 gold medals at the Beijing games, which ended last night. But the group who will have to be assembled for such a show would include more than just 36 athletes, since some of the medals were won in team sports. The US basketball team - stuffed with NBA stars and winners of the gold medal early yesterday - is made up of 12 players. Each of the players was awarded a medal in the national medal standings, but the win counts as only one gold. The idea of scheduling the gold medalists show on the anniversary of 9/11 is pure Oprah Rather than focus on the tragedy of the attack seven years on, an Olympic-champions show would be an irresistible piece of patriotism - marking the day with a positive note. A spokesman for Oprah said the show "is not confirmed."

Meanwhile, Simon & Schuster has announced that Olympian superman Michael Phelps will write a book about his exploits in Beijing to be published in time for the holiday season. (Already) titled "Built to Succeed," the memoir will recount the swimmer's experiences enroute to notching a record-breaking eight gold medals at the XXIX Olympiad, which concluded Sunday night. Along the way, Phelps will expound on the personal philosophy he brings to his athletic pursuits as well as reminiscences of his childhood and struggle with attention-deficit disorder.

Surgery For Paula - Paula Abdul has reportedly undergone neck surgery to fix an old cheerleading injury. The injury has been a persistent cause of pain since she was a teenager and was made worse by a car accident in 1987, the reports say. Abdul quietly checked in to the Olympia Medical Center in Los Angeles earlier this month for the procedure. Reports were that she wanted to get the surgery done before the New York auditions for American Idol began earlier this week. Abdul told People magazine in 2005 that she has had 11 operation on her neck, the last one in 2002 just before "Idol" debuted. "I did the whole first season in pain," she said. "I tried taking the different medications the doctors prescribed, but it was the same old story. No one on the show knew I was in pain." he admitted that the drugs sometimes made her "loopy." But since then, she claims, the only medication she takes is a Rheumatism remedy called Enbrel. "Nothing else," Abdul said. " I get a shot once a week. I give it to myself."

UPDATE! McMahon To Move - Ed McMahon has agreed to a deal with a private buyer for his hilltop home, said Howard Bragman, the former Tonight show sidekick's spokesman. Bragman declined to name the buyer or the selling price. But he said it isn't real estate mogul Donald Trump, who recently offered to buy McMahon's home and act as a landlord. "For Mr. Trump, this acquisition was not business-related, but, as he has stated, was meant to help out an American icon," said Michael Cohen, special counsel to Trump. "If another buyer should emerge who will create the benefit Mr. Trump sought for Ed McMahon, then he is clearly pleased." Bragman said McMahon and his wife, Pamela, will move out of the
home when the sale is complete. The couple's property is located in a hilltop gated community that is also home to Britney Spears. McMahon has faced money woes for months, with creditors filing lawsuits against him for everything from unpaid prescription medicines to loans. His home was facing foreclosure after he defaulted on a $4.8 million loan.

UPDATE! Kattan Files For Seperation - Chris Kattan has filed for legal separation from model wife Sunshine Tutt after only eight weeks of marriage. The couple were married June 28 in Yosemite Valley. They spent roughly a month together; Kattan's filings indicate they separated on Aug. 10. The couple have no children together, and Kattan's filing in Los Angeles Superior Court on Friday indicates the pair have a prenuptial agreement. By filing for separation instead of divorce, Kattan is leaving
the door open for a reunion with Tutt, but is indicating the pair intend to live separate lives for the time being. The couple became engaged on Christmas Eve 2006.

Bruce In The Bronx? -The New York Daily News reports the Yankees want Bruce Springsteen to perform at a concert in November to close the Stadium. The Steinbrenners want to top the Billy Joel concerts at Shea Stadium. Paul McCartney, is also reportedly under consideration; he joined Billy Joel at the second Shea show. Sources close to both rockers weren't aware of any discussions. A Steinbrenner rep had no details.

Stefani Has Girl - Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale welcomed their second little prince today. Son Zuma Nesta Rock Rossdale was born Thursday at Los Angeles' Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, joining 2-year-old brother Kingston. The family's newest addition arrived at 12:46 p.m., weighing 8.5 pounds. "Mother, baby and family are all happy and healthy," a rep for the couple said in a statement. A clean-shaven Rossdale, clad in jeans and a black shirt, was spotted earlier this afternoon running through the maternity ward, looking for his wife's birthing suite. "Run, daddy, run!" shouted a super excited Kingston, who was leading his father along. News of the pregnancy first broke back in January, when Gavin's father, Douglas Rossdale, confirmed the bun in the oven.

Seinfeld Pitches Microsoft - Jerry Seinfeld will be a key pitchman in a planned $300 million fall advertising campaign for the software giant, a person familiar with the plans confirmed to The Associated Press. Citing people close to the situation, it reported the comedian will be paid $10 million for appearing in ads with Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates. It's Microsoft's latest move to try to capture some of the cool quotient that rival Apple has appeared to win so effortlessly. Seinfeld has shown himself to be a superior promoter in the past, particularly for American Express (which also featured Patrick Warburton as Superman) and in selling his Dreamworks animated film Bee Movie last summer. The campaign could expand to include Will Farrell and Chris Rock.

Confirmation -On the same day that Matt Damon's wife gave birth, his buddy's wife confirms she's pregnant again. Jennifer Garner tells Access Hollywood she and hubby Ben Affleck are "so excited, obviously." Recent photos of Garner have shown a little belly developing. Garner isn't saying when she's due or if the baby's a boy or a girl. Their first baby, daughter Violet, was born in December 2005. Both Garner and Affleck are 36.

Rejection Leads To Show - If the new man looking for love on ABC's The Bachelor looks familiar, that's because he was rejected last season on The Bachelorette. Jason Mesnick, whose proposal to DeAnna Pappas was spurned
during the finale, will search for romance among 25 bachelorettes when the 13th season of the reality series returns in January. ABC says that the 32-year-old single father is looking for a woman who "has a real curiosity about the world, who loves life and can find passion in life's smallest moments." The network is casting for eligible women to vie for Mesnick's attention. Mesnick lost out in May during the fourth-season Bachelorette season finale to professional snowboarder Jesse Csincsak, who's engaged to Pappas. She herself was rejected by
previous Bachelor Brad Womack during the series' 11th season.

Other Driver Cited - A citation has been issued to the owner of a car that crashed into a pickup driven by Shia LaBeouf. Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department spokesman Steve Whitmore on Wednesday said 21-year-old Simon Herbert of Los Angeles was given a citation after the car failed to stop at a red light. Whitmore says deputies are still trying to determine if Herbert was driving his car at the time of the July 27 accident. The 22-year-old LaBeouf's hand was crushed when his truck flipped in the West Hollywood collision. The actor, who has been filming the Transformers sequel, spent several days in a hospital.

Baby Report: Martin & Damon - Matt Damon's wife Luciana gave birth to a baby girl Wednesday, his spokeswoman said. The baby's name is Gia Zavala Damon, spokeswoman Jennifer Allen told The Associated Press, adding: "Everyone is great and she is a healthy, beautiful baby girl." She wouldn't give any further details. Meanwhile, Ricky Martin is a father to twin boys born via a surrogate, his rep confirms to People. "The children, delivered via gestational surrogacy, are healthy and already under Ricky's full-time care,"his rep said in a statement. "Ricky is elated to begin this new chapter in his life as a parent and will be spending the remainder of the year out of the public spotlight in order to spend time with his children." The boys' names and the location of their birth have not been released.

Phelps Not A Wheaties Man - Don't look for Olympic champ Michael Phelps on a Wheaties box. "It’s going to be Kellogg’s,” Michael’s longtime agent Peter Carlisle tells Access Hollywood’s Billy Bush. Kellogg’s confirmed to Access that Phelps will appear on both Kellogg’s Corn Flakes and Kellogg’s Frosted Flakes. Boxes will arrive on store shelves in mid-September. Meanwhile, this new Phelps-adorned cover of Sports Illustrated hits newsstands tomorrow in which he's wearing nothing but his 8 gold medals.

Are You Smater Than A Celebrity - Beverly Hills, 90210’s Jennie Garth, rocker Gene Simmons, TV personality Star Jones, actor Dean Cain and former supermodel Kathy Ireland are some of the celebrities who will be participating in the next season of Fox’s Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader? Ireland and Kathy Cox, Georgia’s superintendent of schools, will compete in the two-hour season premiere Sept. 5. Other famous faces set to appear during the season: boxing legend Sugar Ray Leonard, animal expert Jack Hanna and Jeopardy! phenom Ken Jennings.

Cancer Free - Christina Applegate, who was diagnosed with an early form of breast cancer this month, revealed on ABC's Good Morning America Tuesday that she has undergone a double mastectomy – even though cancer was only detected in one of her breasts. Privately, she admits, "Sometimes I cry. Sometimes I scream, and I get really angry and I get really into wallowing in self-pity sometimes, and I think it’s all part of healing." Having watched her mother, Nancy Priddy, battle breast cancer – and then suffer from a recurrence many years later – the Emmy-nominated star of Samantha Who?, 36, told interviewer Robin Roberts that she wasn't taking any chances, especially since she has the breast cancer gene, BRCA1. "My decision, after looking at all the treatment plans that were possibilities for me, the only one that seemed the most logical and the one that was going to work for me was to have a bilateral mastectomy," said Applegate. "So basically I had a prophylactic double mastectomies." Explaining her rationale in taking that dramatic step, she said, "I didn't want to go back to the doctors every four months for testing and squishing and everything. I just wanted to kind of be rid of this whole thing for me. This was the choice that I made, and it was a tough one." The surgery took place three weeks ago. She did not undergo radiation or chemotherapy. Applegate, whose initial reaction when she received her diagnosis, was. "Oh my god. I was so pissed off, so mad … I was just shaking." But then, she said, "Immediately I had to go into take-care-of-business mode." Asked her prognosis, Applegate told Roberts, also a cancer survivor, "I'm clear. Absolutely 100-percent clear and clean." Over the next eight months she will undergo reconstructive surgery. I'm gonna have cute boobs till I'm 90," she quipped She is also set to appear in the all-star TV special Stand Up to Cancer, airing Sept. 5 on ABC, CBS and NBC and raising funds for cancer research. Applegate also noted she plans to raise money for MRIs and gene testing.

Fishbourne Solves Crimes - CSI: Crime Scene Investigation has replaced departing star William Petersen with Laurence Fishburne. Fishburne, an Emmy and Tony winner, will be introduced in the ninth episode of the upcoming 10th season, the network playing a forensics scientist with a secret. Fishburne is a "CSI" newcomer in more ways than one. Asked if he's a fan, he told a teleconference Monday that he was embarrassed to admit he'd never watched before he was approached by producers. "But I am now," he said. He screened past episodes that were engaging and "kind of dark and moody, like the work I've been
involved in," he said. "Wow, this will work," Fishburne recalled thinking. He was their top choice, said executive producers Carol Mendelsohn and Naren Shankar, with a deeply intelligent approach to his work that matches the drama's spirit.
Fishburne will play a college lecturer and former pathologist who is focused on why people commit acts of violence. The character is nameless for now but has been dubbed "The Professor." The air date for Petersen's final episode has yet to be
determined but will be early next year. Petersen has been with the series since it debuted in fall 2000 and will remain a "CSI" executive producer, the network said.

Emmy Gets 5 Hosts - A week ago, they found out they are the first ever Emmy nominees in the new category of best reality host. But instead of enjoying the show in the audience, American Idol's Ryan Seacrest, Survivor'"s Jeff Probst, Dancing with the Stars Tom Bergeron, Deal or No Deal's Howie Mandel and Project Runway' s Heidi Klum will have to work on it. The five have been named co-hosts for the 60th Primetime Emmy Awards, which will take place Sept. 21 at the Nokia Theater and will be broadcast on ABC.As they were looking at potential hosts, Emmy producers focused their attention on the new reality hosts category. "It was pretty obvious," executive producer Ken Ehrlich said. But they didn't make any move until July 17 when the nominations were announced. "When we saw the nominees (in the category), they turned out to be such a a perfect group of people," he said. Seacrest, Probst, Bergeron, Mandel and Klum, who know each other well, were approached and quickly agreed to come on board. Details on how the five will share the hosting duties are still being worked out, but they are expected to be together on stage at some point, Ehrlich said. This will be second consecutive Emmy emcee duties for Seacrest, who was the sole host last year when the ceremony aired on Fox. "This gives us the opportunity to be very contemporary and current on a show where we also will celebrate the history of the TV Academy and the history of television," he said. "It's the best of both worlds." Click here for a full list of Emmy nominations.

Urban Slips A Disc - New dad Keith Urban has been diagnosed with a slipped disc, his publicist, Paul Freundlich, confirms to People. The rep wouldn't comment on what caused the injury, but says it won't affect the singer's touring schedule.
Urban, 40, mentioned the setback to fans at a concert Saturday night at the Konocti Harbor Resort & Spa in Kelseyville, Calif., but, according to CMT.com, he went on to deliver an enthusiastic performance. The singer has been dividing his time between Australia – where he, wife Nicole Kidman and their 7-week old daughter, Sunday Rose, have been visiting family – and his North American tour dates.
Next up is a headliner slot at this weekend's Country Rocks Festival in Halifax, Nova Scotia, to be followed by a Sept. 5 appearance in New York City's Columbus Circle for the NFL's Kickoff Show.

No Bruce, Jon At DNC - Bruce Springsteen will not perform at the Democratic National Convention following Barack Obama's acceptance speech Thursday, which several reports had indicated. UPDATE! Avril OK To Play - Malaysia has allowed Avril Lavigne to hold a concert ahead of the country's independence day celebrations, reversing a decision to bar the performance following protests by an Islamist party. The decision to allow the August 29 concert in Kuala Lumpur was taken at a cabinet meeting after studying the assurances given by the concert organizer, Bernama quoted Arts and Culture Minister Mohamad Shafie Apdal as saying. The government had previously asked Lavigne's promoters to change the date of the concert after the opposition, Parti se-Islam Malaysia, objected to it, saying that mainly Muslim Malaysia should not ape Western values and cultures. "In giving the approval, the cabinet also instructed the (arts and culture) ministry to monitor the concert to ensure that the performances do not clash with the Malaysian culture and values," Shafie was quoted as saying. Last October, U.S. R&B star Beyonce Knowles axed her debut concert in Malaysia in protest against the country's ultra-strict dress code and over fears of a Muslim outcry over her show. But a year ago, U.S. singer Gwen Stefani performed in Malaysia despite calls from Muslim students to cancel the concert because they deemed it too obscene.

Happy Birthday! - Hey Miley Cyrus...you're turning 16 on October 5! Where are your going? Disneyland! 5,000 of Miley's fans will get to join Cyrus for her party at the Ahaheim park; tickets will be sold for $250 each and go on sale at 12noon on Saturday, Aug. 30 at www.disneyparks.com/miley. In a statement, the Hannah Montana star said, “I only turn 16 once, so it’s going to be an awesome party with my favorite rides, hanging out with friends, fireworks and more. I’ll even get to sing a couple songs.” The park will be divided into “Special Party Zones” decorated with Hannah Montana themes, and certain rides and attractions will be open for the partygoers, with a grand finale of a fireworks show.

"Tupperwear Voting" - Sheryl Crow is giving away free music -- a tactic she calls the "Tupperware" party approach to inspiring young people to vote. The Grammy Award-winning singer announced a plan to give a digital copy of her album "Detours" to the first 50,000 people who register three friends to vote. "I hope people wake up and emotionally engage in issues," said Crow. Her giveaway is a kickoff to Rock the Vote's voter registration drive. She is also offering a free download of her politically charged song "Gasoline" to anyone who logs onto the Rock the Vote Web site or anyone on the group's mailing list, said the organization's executive director Heather Smith. Crow, 46, was one of the founding artists of Rock the Vote 18 years ago. She said the "Detours" album fits perfectly into the group's cause since the lyrics touch on topics such as adoption,
breast cancer, the war in Iraq, the environment and Hurricane Katrina.

DMB Saxopohonies Dies - The show went on for the Dave Matthews Band on Tuesday night, with Matthews paying tribute from the stage to saxophonist LeRoi Moore, who died earlier in the day. "We all had some bad news today," Matthews told the sell-out crowd at the Staples Center in Los Angeles after the first song. "Our good friend LeRoi Moore passed on and gave his ghost up today and we will miss him forever." Fans shouted Moore's name in tribute as the band resumed playing. Two songs later, Matthews once again made reference to Moore, saying: "It's easier to leave than be left." Moore, a founding member of the band, died Tuesday afternoon of complications from an all-terrain vehicle accident in June, the band's rep announced. Moore, who had recently returned to his house in L.A. to begin a physical rehabilitation program, died at Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center, according to the rep.

Daughtry Sings For CNN - CNN is counting on a specially recorded cover of Foreigner's 1977 hit "Feels Like the First Time" to attract new or returning voters who want to find out what's going on in the presidential campaign. The tune, cut by the Grammy-nommed band Daughtry, will be the theme song for an occasional segment called League of First Time Voters. It bows tonight during the cabler's Campbell Brown: Election Center. "It's about engaging people to the process who may be voting for the first time," said Andy Mitchell veep of interactive marketing for CNN Worldwide. "But it's also about people who may be re-engaging with the process after a long while for whatever reason, and that's why we chose the tune -- it may not be their first time voting, but it might feel like it." According to an announcement by the cabler, the League is "a multiplatform programming initiative designed to inform, involve and empower individuals passionate about this election cycle. The initiative's online home, located at CNN.com/league, enables users to educate themselves about the candidates, key issues and the election process in general, as well as register to vote using Rock the Vote's innovative, easy-to-use tool for online voter registration." CNN also put together a musicvideo for the song, which can be seen on the website. "Daughtry's version of the song is very cool and has more than captured the essence of the original," the song's author, Mick Jones of Foreigner, said in a statement. "I am delighted that the song will be used in this critical initiative."

Coulier Comes Clean - After more than a decade, Full House star Dave Coulier has finally owned up to being the cad that Alanis Morissette raked over the coals in her breakthrough hit "You Oughta Know." Coulier tells the Calgary Herald that he was in his car when he first heard the tune and thought, "'Wow, this girl is angry.' And then I said, 'Oh man, I think it's Alanis.' I listened to the song over and over again, and I said, 'I think I have really hurt this person. [Eventually], we saw each other and hung out for an entire day. And it was beautiful. It was one of those things where it was kind of like, 'We're good.'"

Stop Using My Song Part 2 - Add Jackson Browne to the list of artists who don't want John McCain using his songs in the Presidential campaign. The singer-songwriter sued McCain and the Ohio and national Republican committees in U.S. District Court in Los Angeles on Thursday, accusing them of using his song "Running on Empty" without his permission. The lawsuit claims the song's use was an infringement of his copyright and will lead people to conclude he endorses McCain. The suit says Browne is a lifelong liberal who is as well-known for his music as for being "an advocate for social and environmental justice." The advertisement mocks Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama's contention that if U.S. drivers got regular tuneups and drove on properly inflated tires, they could save the same amount of oil that would be gained by offshore drilling. According to the suit, "Running on Empty" plays in the background of the ad criticizing the remarks. McCain spokesman Brian Rogers disavowed the ad, saying it wasn't a product of the Republican presidential candidate's campaign. The suit notes that other musicians, including ABBA and John Cougar Mellencamp, have asked McCain to stop using their work. Browne's attorney, Lawrence Iser, called the ad's use of the song "reprehensible." The 59-year-old singer claims his reputation has already been damaged and is seeking more than $75,000 in damages.

Hall Comes To New York - The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum is in Cleveland, but it will soon have a New York. ddress as well. An annex will open in November in the SoHo area of Manhattan. At a press conference in the city, Mayor Michael Bloomberg, along with Hall of Famer Billy Joel and representatives from the Hall, announced plans for a 25-thousand-square-foot annex. Bloomberg said, "It's only fitting that the role New York City has played in launching the careers of so many of the world's most talented artists -- like Rock and Roll Hall of Famers Paul Simon, Blondie and the Velvet Underground -- on the world's greatest stages -- like the Fillmore East, the Apollo Theater, and Madison Square Garden -- be recognized and honored with the opening of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Annex." The Hall of Fame has held 21 of its 23 induction ceremonies in New York since it is in the Big Apple where most of the record labels are headquartered. The state-of-the-art facility will focus on the defining moments in rock and roll history and will be designed to resonate with both the casual music fan and the seasoned rock enthusiast. It will feature an array of exhibitions, including a permanent "New York Rocks" gallery that will highlight key locations around the city that have musical significance. The annex will also showcase select relics from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum's vast collection -- including Bruce Springsteen's 1957 Chevy, John Lennon's Record Plant Piano, Elvis Presley's motorcycle jacket, a handwritten poem by Jim Morrison, as well as items from The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, the Grateful Dead and many others. Billy Joel even donated a few items yesterday.

U2 Rumors - As fall approaches, the rumor mill regarding the next U2 album is heating up. A tentative release date is set for November 18th, which is right around the time the band's last two albums -- 2000's All That You Can't Leave Behind and 2004's How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb -- were released. The Irish Evening Herald reports that the first single is called "Sexy Boots" and should be released in mid-September. And many U2 sites are speculating that the album's title is No Line on the Horizon, which is known as one of the songs Bono and The Edge played for reporters at the Sundance Film Festival this year. Adding to that speculation is that Universal Music has registered the domain name NoLineontheHorizon.com, but has not yet constructed a site at the name. A spokesman for the band was unavailable for comment.

UPDATE! Hayes Dies Of Stroke -Isaac Hayes apparently died of a stroke, officials with the sheriff's department said. The deep-voiced soul singer died Sunday after he was found unconscious at his Memphis residence. No autopsy was performed, but paperwork filed by Hayes' family physician, Dr. David Kraus, lists the cause of death as a stroke, sheriff's spokesman Steve Shular said Tuesday. Deputies were among the emergency crews that responded after a 911 call, and sheriff's department detectives were looking into the death. Kraus told investigators that he had been treating Hayes, 65, for high blood pressure, Shular said. Family members found Hayes lying on the floor of his home beside a treadmill that was still switched on.

We will ever miss his love, wisdom, humor and the familiar comfort of his voice."He had recently finished work on the upcoming movie Soul Men, in which he played himself.
