Erratic driver on Route 9 arrested for DWI and drug related offenses

A Good Samaritan's tip to New Jersey State Police leads to an Ocean County woman's arrest after she was spotted driving erratically in and out of the southbound lanes in Route 9 in Burlington County heading toward the parkway.

After police caught up to and pulled over Melissa Haugh, 31, of Little Egg Harbor on Saturday around 10:00 am they found her under the influence and charged her with DWI and found multiple drugs including heroin and crack-cocaine in her black Nissan that also sported Virginia license plates.

Haugh was pulled over at milepost 50.0 which is in Bass River Township and the officer who made the stop found her under the influence during the ensuing investigation.

The probe at the traffic stop also found heroin, crack-cocaine, alprazolam, hypodermic needles and drug paraphernalia.

Haugh is charged with possession of heroin, possession of crack cocaine, possession of alprazolam, possession of hypodermic needles, possession of drug paraphernalia, and DWI.

She was released pending a court appearance.

"A big thanks and nice assist goes out to the caller, who potentially saved lives and prevented a tragedy by reporting this to dispatch!," State Police said on Facebook.

Charges are mere accusations and the accused is considered innocent until proven guilty.
