A former Secaucus mayor convicted of bribery in the state’s largest-ever corruption sting has been sentenced to 2.5 years in prison.

Dennis Elwell was mayor of Secaucus when he was among 44 people arrested in the summer of 2009.

He was convicted in July 2011 on one count of accepting $10,000 from an informant posing as a crooked developer seeking help in securing town approval for projects in Secaucus.

The prison sentence was handed down Thursday in federal court in Newark.
