Explanation of Bizarre ‘Sand Piles’ in Point Pleasant Beach

Social media has been buzzing about this very strange scene on Point Pleasant Beach.

Last weekend, Jerry Meaney who runs the Barnegat Bay, NJ Facebook page posted this picture of dozens of what could be described as "sand piles" on the Point Pleasant beach near Atlantic Avenue.

How does this happen?

Speculation on Facebook went from scientific theories to this being proof of aliens.

The answer ended up being quite simple.

A source told Meaney that the sand piles were created by a retired Newark policeman named Charlie who walks the boards and wanted to get people talking. Mystery solved!
