Before They Were Famous: Faith Hill

Faith Hill found success in Nashville soon after she moved from Mississippi in the late 1980s, but she spent some time flipping burgers at McDonald’s prior to her Music City experience. “Fries, burgers, cash register — I did it all,” Hill said. “I hated it. God bless the people that work there.”

For a week in 1987, she sold t-shirts at Reba McEntire‘s booth at the CMA Music Festival (known then as Fan Fair), but soon secured a more practical job as a receptionist at a music publishing office. Ironically, one of her first auditions was for a job as backup singer in McEntire’s touring band. She didn’t get the job, but the woman who did died in a plane crash with seven other member’s of the famous redhead’s crew.
