Gov. Chris Christie announced Friday that people with certain storm-related damage to their homes in Atlantic, Cape May, Middlesex, Monmouth and Ocean Counties are now eligible for the Sheltering and Temporary Essential Power pilot program.

Under the program, residents can apply to their municipal governments for grants for repairs to electrical meters, heat and hot-water systems, and emergency exterior repairs.

The federal government is to pay 75 percent of the costs and the local governments 25 percent.

The same program launched just after the storm hit in New York City.
