In a continuation of this weekend's warm, summerlike weather, Monday will bring more 90-degree temperatures and abundant blue skies across the Garden State.

Here are your weather headlines for Monday, June 20, 2016...

Welcome to Summer!

Holy guacamole, what a beautiful weekend! Lower 80s on Saturday, near 90 on Sunday, with sunshine and clear skies all around. Everyone should please write a letter to Mother Nature, requesting more of the same weekend weather through at least Labor Day.

We'll get another pleasant, summerlike day on Monday - pretty perfect for the first day of Summer! (The official solstice time is 6:34 p.m.) High temperatures will climb to around 90 degrees once again, with Jersey Shore beaches topping out in the lower 80s. There is a little bit of humidity in the atmosphere, with dew points creeping close to 60. But I'm not going to call it "humid" or "muggy" or "steamy" - mostly because the heat index ("feels like" temperature) will be close to the actual temperature through Monday afternoon.

Showers and Storms

As New Jersey gets clipped by a storm system from Monday night through Tuesday night, we have to add two rain chances to the forecast. The first will arrive around 2 a.m. Tuesday morning, lasting until as late as 10 a.m. Tuesday. So your commute could be a little wet, but the rain activity looks scattered and not a drenching.

The bigger concern will come as partial sunshine heats the atmosphere to the mid 80s by Tuesday afternoon. As a weak cold front arrives, a round of potentially strong thunderstorms is expected between about 4 p.m. Tuesday and 2 a.m. Wednesday. Pockets of heavy rain, gusty winds, and some hail will be possible - especially in the southern third of New Jersey, where temperatures will be warmest and the atmosphere most unstable.

By Wednesday, we'll feel the effects of slightly cooler, drier air. High temperatures will still climb to the lower to mid 80s (near to just above normal for late June). With a stiff breeze and mostly sunny skies, it should be a beautiful summer day.

One More Storm Chance

Another system will move through New Jersey from Wednesday night through Thursday night. And this one could bring an extended period to the Garden State. We do need the rain - the northern third of New Jersey is now classified as "Moderate Drought".

So Thursday could be a washout, with periods of heavy rain and embedded thunderstorms possible. Temperatures will be limited to the mid 70s to lower 80s, which I believe will limit instability and the threat for widespread severe weather.

The payoff from Thursday's wet weather will be high pressure building in for Friday and the weekend. If you like gorgeous weather, you must be a fan of high pressure! Skies should become sunny on Friday, with pleasantly warm high temperatures in the mid 70s. A warmup into the lower 80s will take place Saturday and Sunday, with sunshine and blue skies. If this forecast holds, the last weekend of June would be another winner.
