The search will pick up again on Wednesday morning for the 40-foot commercial fishing boat named El Jefe. Another boat reported seeing El Jefe go into the water near buoy 14 in the Sandy Hook Bay shipping lanes. ABC 7 reported seeing a life ring and two coolers floating in the water.

The NYPD Special Operations Unit is using their side scan sonar as the New Jersey State Police Marine Unit reported finding debris in the water.

No agency has said how many people may have been on board the trawler.

Several fire units from Monmouth County are also assisting with the search of  an area which has an average depth of 50 feet according to NBC 4 New York.
