Fitz and the Tantrums + Holychild Discuss Music Icons [VIDEO]

The Collaboration Room is a place for upcoming and established artists to get together and hash out their thoughts on and experiences in the music industry. Whether new to the scene or boasting shelves full of awards, all artists have a wealth of information to share with their fellow musicians, and we’re making it happen in our studio.

In this Collab episode, L.A.-based Holychild sat down with Fitz of the pop-soul band Fitz and the Tantrums to discuss artists they’d love to work with. The latter pulled out a few legendary names for his ideal collaborations.

“So many,” Fitz said right off the bat. With such an eclectic sound found in his discography, it’s unsurprising that he has a long list of fellow musicians he admires. The band’s influences seem wide and diverse.

“From a live standpoint,” Fitz continued, “James Brown and the way he just ran that stage.”

He added: “Vocally and artistry-wise, Jeff Buckley. To me, [he has] one of the most amazing voices ever. When I heard ‘Grace,’ that first Jeff Buckley record, I was just floored. It almost made me give up music, because I was like, if I can’t touch one one-hundredth of the emotion that guy lets out of his body every time he sings, then I don’t want to do this. It was just amazing.”

The passion with which Fitz talks about both illustrious artists is as inspiring as it is understandable. Who wouldn’t want to work with music icons like James and Jeff if given the chance?
