I was walking around downtown Red Bank yesterday afternoon when a sign caught my eye, previewing something totally retro!

Signs are up on the building that once housed Red Bank Sub Shop at 8 Monmouth Street teasing Fizz Soda Fountain.

I spoke to Fizz co-owner Kevin Kopacko, who said he's partnering with Red Bank Sub Shop owner Canio Paradiso for the new restaurant.

He said, "It's a 50s, retro, diner kind of concept...it'll be an old-school soda fountain idea."

Depending on what the town approves, he's hoping to be open for lunch and dinner hours, with the potential for late night hours on weekends.

Kopacko said he found an authentic 1946 soda fountain online and got it rebuilt for the store. The menu will include items like burgers, milkshakes, malteds, cherry lime rickeys, ice cream sundaes, and sodas made with homemade syrups. There's also an all-day breakfast menu planned.

They are currently doing construction to redesign the look of the restaurant, but barring any issues, they hope to be open by September.

This place sounds like it'll be a real blast, Daddy-o!
