Even though we may escape the direct effects of the hurricane, there is still a chance of flooding, high winds, and power outages.

Good thing my rain boots go all the way up to my knees, because sometimes, where I live, just a good downpour can lead to flash flooding that would soak right through me if I didn't carry these boots around.

They have been with me for days now, as we monitor the hurricane.

And even though I am praying that Joaquin stays on track to head OUT to sea, I am not putting my rain boots away.

Because with heavy rain today and wind gusts up to 50 mph at least through the weekend (if not longer), high tides and being surrounded by water where I live, I think it's too soon to stop worrying.

Keep your eyes on The Point website for updated storm info, but, the way I look at it, we can't really relax just yet.

It is, after all, hurricane season, and many Sandy victims still live along the coast and know all too well just how bad one big flood can be.

So I will continue to pray for this hurricane to pass us by with no damage and no evacuations, for our power to stay on, for bread and milk and batteries and water jugs still available to last-minute shoppers, and for pets to be safely inside and cared for.

Does Joaquin leave you in a state of anxiety after what we went through with Sandy?
