Former Assistant Asbury Park Assistant City Manager James Famularo tragically died in a structure fire at his townhouse in Asbury Park on Monday afternoon, according to the Monmouth County Prosecutors Office.

The 52-year old was found deceased in an upstairs bedroom of the 3-story townhouse shortly after Asbury Park Police and Fire Departments arrived to the 1509 Park Avenue residence around 3:08 pm.

His wife, Shonna, escaped the fire and was transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center for non-life threatening injuries.

Firefighters were able to get the blaze under control and an on-scene investigation determined that the fire originated in the first floor den of the residence.

The cause of the fire was determined to be accidental.

The ongoing investigation into the fire is being conducted by the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, Monmouth County Fire Marshal’s Office and Asbury Park Police Department.

Anyone who believes they have information to assist the investigative team is urged to contact Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office Detective Brian Weisbrot at 800-533-7443 or Asbury Park Police Detective Cynthia Yost at (732) 775-1996.
