Hey winos, how much would you spend on a great bottle of wine? $100? $1000? How about $100,000+?

You have the chance to do just that at a local Sam's Club store.

That's right, the big box discount store in Freehold is selling a rare bottle of Penfolds 2004 Kalimna Block 42 Cabernet Sauvignon for $158,000. (A whole 10 grand off the retail price!)

NJ.com reports it's the "most expensive bottle of wine ever at time of release."

What makes it so pricey? Well, it's one of only 12 bottles produced, and the grapes come from one of the oldest continually-producing Cab vines in the world.

The official tasting notes from Penfolds Chief Winemaker Peter Gago state, "The nose shows intense blackcurrant, dark chocolate, and licorice aromas. Fine, silky tannins and richly concentrated flavors are in perfect harmony. The sheer volume and weight of fruit explodes across the palate, giving tremendous depth and length of flavor."

Apparently it pairs well with hearty meat dishes. (And a Bentley.)

Oh, and this wine isn't coming in just any bottle. It's stored in a hand-blown glass ampoule, within a glass plumb bob, within a finished wood cabinet. You can see a display ampoule -- sans wine -- on display at the Freehold store. The wine itself is hidden away until someone actually purchases it.

When you buy it, one of Penfolds senior winemakers will fly anywhere in the world to provide white-glove opening ceremony, with a special tool (kind of like a cigar cutter) to open the ampoule. (And Sam's will throw in a free lifetime membership.)

Considering wine that nuanced would be totally lost on me...I'd use the $158,000 wine budget to pick up 19,000+ bottles of my favorite $7 red.

What's the most you'd spend on a bottle of wine?
