You're invited to Leggetts this Saturday night for some fun, and to help raise money for those fighting a serious disease.

Imagine having an inflammatory disease called Sarcoidosis, where your immune system overreacts and damages your body tissue.  You can get Sarcoidosis in any organ of your body but it usually effects your lungs. The classic feature of this disease is the formation of granulomas...and these clumps can prevent an organ from functioning properly.

Cathy Wick from Manasquan, who has held this fundraiser for the past four years, was diagnosed about 14 years ago and lived with Sarcoidosis dormant in her body for about 11 years. But it became active a little over three years ago when she started getting symptoms like shortness of breath, fatigue, and exhaustion. She had to leave her job as an RN at Jersey Shore University Medical Center and since then has been focused on raising awareness and funding for research.

Unfortunately, there are still so many things that medical professionals don't know about Sarcoidosis. They don't know how you get it, there are no treatments for it, doctors can only treat the symptoms you have, and there is no cure.

So Cathy Wick asks that you please come to the 4th Annual Sarcoidosis Awareness Fundraiser this Saturday, Oct. 18th, at Leggetts in Manasquan from 6 pm - 10 pm. The cost is $30 at the door which includes a drink coupon, a dinner buffet, and live music by Don't Know Jack and the Pipes & Drums of the Jersey Shore Shillelaghs. There will also be a gift auction, silent auction, and 50/50. 100% of the proceeds go to the Foundation for Sarcoidosis Research (FSR) in Chicago.
