Instead of candy, here are a couple of clever options to hand out to trick-or-treaters.

If you want to be a little different, and not just give out another Twix or Snickers bar, here are some things that could make the kids happy...and perhaps even their parents!

-- Glow sticks....they don't cost a lot per pack, and you can separate them and hand one to each kid. This will especially come in handy as the sun goes down. Or, also lots of fun for the kids, how about those L-E-D finger lights? They are even cooler, but perhaps a couple cents more.

-- Temporary tattoos...there is such a huge variety of these, and what kid doesn't want to go home and put on a tattoo or two? And you can buy sheets of them for pennies!

-- Noisemakers and whistles...okay so maybe the parents won't love these, but when the kids are getting hyper and running from house to house, let them have some fun making noise with the special treat they just got from knocking on your door.

-- Money. If you can spare a quarter or more, why not? If a kid collects just five, he or she could go to the dollar store and make a purchase. Or even get something like a Hot Wheels car at any store that carries them. And the parents will love you for that one!
