Jason Huelbig is a star basketball player that led Middletown North to their best season ever last winter. He was named first-team All-Shore and his efforts earned him a full scholarship to Assumption College in Massachusetts. Sadly, Jason could lose his sight. He and his family need our help.

Imagine being just a couple weeks away from graduation. There's the excitement of moving on to the next chapter of your life. There's the celebration of already tremendous accomplishments. But, in the case of Jason Heulbig, there's the unknown of whether or not he will be able to see.

Jason has been diagnosed with Keratoconus, a rare eye disease that affects his corneas and if left untreated will eventually cause blindness. The disease has been progressing quite rapidly and it forces the 18-year old to wear both a hard and soft contact lens in each eye.

The good news is that he has been approved  surgery but the bad news is the only doctor who performs the procedure is in California and the surgery is not covered by insurance and will cost about $17,000.

HOW WE CAN HELP

  • Middletown North’s Civic Leadership program will join forces with the school’s Booster Club to host a Spaghetti Dinner Monday June 11th in the Middletown North high school cafeteria.
  • Make a donation. Make a check payable to “MHSN Civic Leadership” and send it to:

Kevin Williams

1015 Route 9

Bayville, NJ 08721.

Kevin will turn donations over to coach Mike Iasparro at the end of the month. Read Kevin's Hometown View here.

Help Jason achieve his dreams and give whatever you can. This is another prime example of how the Jersey Shore can come together and help ONE OF OUR OWN.
