A student from Manasquan Elementary School celebrates his birthday each year by trying to get as much food donated to the Foodbank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties as possible.

Xander Bassone is celebrating the fourth year of his "Fill A Truck" event. This year he's turning 14 and is asking you, as he's done for the past four years, to donate food instead of birthday gifts.

So scan your food kitchen cabinets or pantry, or get some items on sale, and help Xander collect canned and dry boxed goods to feed the hungry.

With the help of Move For Hunger and Lowy's Moving (they provide the truck to collect the food), Xander has received over 15,000 pounds of donated food in years past...along with $2,500 in cash donations.

This year's Fill A Truck takes place Sunday, Dec. 22, 8 am - 3 pm in the parking lot of the Manasquan Acme on the corner of Rt. 71 and East Main St.

For more information or to make a donation, call Xander (732) 581-8765.

And, by the way, this is the first year that Xander's food drive falls on his actual birthday...so be sure and give Xander a birthday shout-out as you're dropping off your donations.
