Help This Local Mom and Her Family

Kim Ernst of Howell is battling stage 4 cancer and her family could use your help.

Kim Ernst, a Howell resident and mom of two boys, turned 48 in December. Days after that, and the holidays, she found out she has colon cancer after being in the ER twice for pain. News kept getting worse after finding out it was stage 4 and had spread to her pelvis, liver and ovary.

After weeks of tests and specialist appointments, Kim and her husband Don wound up at Memorial Sloan Kettering in NYC for surgery to remove what they could. On March 2nd Kim underwent about four hours of intensive surgery with two surgeons operating on her.

The next day was Kim and Don's 25th wedding anniversary. After being in a 24 hour recovery, with her husband, sons Jarret (13 years old) and Jake (20 years old) only being allowed to see her for about ten minutes, Kim is now in a 6 - 8 week recovery between the hospital and home before she can begin a 6-month chemo treatment at Robert Wood Johnson.

Kim has stopped working, and with all the appointments they have to go to, Don has taken a lot of time off from work. Kim's sister Susan has flown in from California to help out with the household and the boys while Kim fights this battle.
