The Monmouth County SPCA has volunteers who are willing to go as far as Puerto Rico to rescue dogs and bring them here for adoption.

I have followed the posts and texts from some of these amazing volunteers as they make long drives to our southern states to rescue dogs and puppies who would otherwise be killed...and who also hop on a plane and rescue dogs in Puerto Rico who are perfectly healthy but don't have homes or families.

So, first of all, THANK YOU to the amazing group of volunteers whose love of animals is so strong that they are willing to go way outside of their own community to bring these loveable dogs back here to save their lives and so that YOU have a chance to adopt a new family member that will fill your life with more love!

This is Pito, our Point Pet of the Week, from Puerto Rico. He is 11-months old and, although a little shy at first, quickly comes out of his shell and is full of love.

He is lucky enough to be in a foster home, which brings me to the second group of volunteers with the Monmouth County SPCA who I want to thank. Each time a member of our community offers to foster a dog or cat at their home, they help keep the shelter from becoming overcrowded AND they give that animal a chance to learn how to be loved while awaiting a Forever Home.

So Pito is being well cared for while the SPCA waits for someone to adopt him. Pito is in a foster home with a doggie 'sister' and human friends and is so happy that he jumps up to give everyone kisses! Can you imagine coming off the beach or streets of Puerto Rico where you never knew what it was like to be loved, into a family of humans and other dogs, and realizing for the first time how great it is to be part of a family?

We really hope you will think about making Pito your Forever Pet. He gets along great with other dogs AND cats so he would probably love a home that has other animals.

If you'd like to see Pito in person, CALL FIRST so that the SPCA can get him from where he's being fostered so that you can meet him! 732-542-5962. Or send an email to adoptions@monmouthcountyspca.org.
